Put Game Builder on their tablet

The kids' builder installs as an app called Game Builder: its own icon, full screen, a layout that stays usable while the keyboard is up, and a Scan the code button that pairs the tablet from inside the app. It's the same builder as kidsgamebuilder.com/code/, just one tap away.

The short way: open kidsgamebuilder.com/code/ on the tablet and tap Install the app in the bar at the bottom. On Android and computers it installs right there; on iPad it shows the two Safari taps. The long way, by platform:

iPad and iPhone

  1. Open kidsgamebuilder.com/code/ in Safari.
  2. Tap Share (the square with the arrow up). If you don't see it, tap … first.
  3. Tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Leave Open as Web App on, then tap Add.

Game Builder appears on the home screen with its own icon. (On iOS 26 and later, sites added to the Home Screen open as apps automatically.)

Android tablets and phones

  1. Open kidsgamebuilder.com/code/ in Chrome.
  2. Tap Install when it pops up, or tap the ⋮ menu and choose Install app.
  3. Tap Install. It appears with the other apps.

Computer (Chrome or Edge)

  1. Open kidsgamebuilder.com/code/.
  2. Click the install icon at the right end of the address bar (or the menu, then Install).
  3. It opens in its own window with its own icon.

Then pair it

  1. On your family page, on the Kids tab, tap Pair a device next to your kid's name. A QR code appears.
  2. Open Game Builder on the tablet and tap Scan the code. Allow the camera when it asks, and point it at your screen.
  3. They're in. The code works once and expires in minutes; the tablet stays signed in for about six months, and you can pause or remove it from your family page any time.

No camera, or a computer? Type the code shown under the QR code instead. On the family page you'll see each kid's device marked Paired in the app or Paired in a browser.

Questions parents ask

Is Game Builder in the App Store or Google Play?

Not yet, on purpose. It's a web app: it installs from Safari or Chrome in a few taps, gets its own icon, opens full screen, and updates by itself. Store listings are on our roadmap.

Does it work without the internet?

No. The AI helper lives online, so building needs a connection. Offline, the app opens to a friendly screen that says so and offers to try again.

Why scan from inside the app, not with the camera app?

On iPad and iPhone an installed web app keeps its own sign-in, separate from Safari. Scanning with the camera app opens Safari, so the sign-in lands there. The Scan the code button inside the app signs the app itself in. The camera is used only on that screen, only after the tap, and the picture never leaves the device.

My kid's tablet keyboard covered the screen before. Is that fixed?

Yes. The builder now sizes itself to the part of the screen above the keyboard, and on a small screen the game preview folds to a strip while they type, with a Show game button to bring it back.

Can I still pair a computer?

Yes. On a computer, open kidsgamebuilder.com/code/ and type the code from your family page. Computers can install the app too, from Chrome or Edge.
