Pairs with Scratch
Our lessons teach kids to describe, design and refine a game in words; Scratch teaches them to build it step by step in blocks. Try both: plan a game here, then rebuild one rule of it in Scratch. How the two fit together
Running a library, camp or club?
We'd love to help your group make games together. Tell us about your group and we'll work out what fits.
Questions teachers ask
Do students need accounts or email addresses?
No. Students never sign up or type anything personal. The lessons work on paper, and the arcade games need no sign-up.
What does a class need?
A computer, tablet or Chromebook per kid (or per pair) with a web browser. Nothing to install and nothing for IT to approve beyond visiting our site.
Does this replace Scratch?
No, it pairs with it. Kids plan and describe a game in words here, then rebuild one rule of it in Scratch blocks to see how it works step by step.
How long are the lessons?
25 to 50 minutes depending on the age group. Every lesson works without devices. They fit Hour of Code week, a club meeting or an indoor recess.
Is it really free?
Yes. The lesson plans are free, with no sign-up. Print and share the plans for teaching as much as you like.
Is it safe for young kids?
There are no ads, no chat, no accounts and no tracking. Kids build from our own library of kid-friendly pictures, and a real person on our team plays every game before it goes on the arcade.
